Daiso Pore Pack Reviews

Lol I need to make more of an effort to write my blogs! I recently finished another round of midterms and have been spending my time job hunting!! I'm also participating in an intercollegiate pageant, so I'll let you know how that goes :)

Anyway, I wanted to review these pore packs I bought from Daiso awhile back.  Over the summer, there was a lot of hype over the pore pack from The Face Shop, but it was sold out everywhere! I even asked  a friend who was visiting Vietnam to look for it in their shops over there, but no luck :P  I don't actually have very large pores or blackheads or anything, but I was just curious about how much junk was in my pores, and those Biore strips never worked well for me. So, you can imagine my excitement when I found pore packs at Daiso!!

I bought the cactus one first about several months ago, and I found the black one about a month ago.  The white one costs $4, and the black one is $2, and their difference in price reflects their difference in quality.

Both pore packs are used in the same way.  For this to work well, you have to apply a thick layer onto your skin.  I think the cactus one dried faster than the the black one.  Once dry, you peel them off.  The cactus pack is stickier and hurts more than the white one when you peel it off, but both leave your skin feeling nice and soft.  For the purpose of this review, I used both packs in the morning before I washed my face, because I typically don't have much in my pores. I think my daily ritual of cleansing and toning keeps my face fairly clean.  Anyway, so how do the results compare?? Well see for yourself!!

Obviously, the cactus pack is white, and the black pack is black.  When you initially look at the strip, it's really hard to see what the cactus pack picked up, whereas with the black back, the junk stands out against the black strip.  But upon closer inspection, you'll see that the cactus pack picked up a lot more gunk than the black pack.

I admit, this is kind of gross, but at the same time kind of cool! From the pictures, you can tell that the cactus pack picked up A LOT more gunk than the black pack.  I had a really hard time trying to capture the little white pore gunks on the black strip, but on the cactus strip, it really stands out!

One last picture of all the gunk LOL sorry if it grosses you out, but I wanted to show you how much it pulled out!! Amazing, right??

Halloween

Hello!! It's been a while...  I've been spending all my free time working on my pharmacy apps, and I just submitted my last supplement a few minutes ago!! Now I'm ready to just  r e l a x :)  It honestly wasn't my best work, so I have very low expectations for the outcome.  It's okay, because  I don't completely feel ready either, and next year I'll be a much better candidate to compete against other people. But as for now, I'm done :)  Now I can concentrate on my classes and job hunting again and some other feel good activities, like baking :)

Anyway, I went out with my girls Friday night to celebrate Halloween at my girlfriend friend's charity halloween party, but it was more like a birthday party with a charity title slapped to it that we paid $20 to go to X_X It's okay, I still highly enjoyed dressing up and spending time with my girls.

Sorry, these were my only full body shots, lol. I was a CAVE GIRL!!  I was actually inspired by:

I actually ordered this dress, but they only had size medium left and it was super unflattering on me!  Besides that, this dress costs $27.80!! That's a lot more than I'd want to spend on something I'd never wear again lol.  So I went with a friend to go buy fabric, and I made my own dress. YES, I made my own dress, and I'm quite proud :) I spend late late Thursday night cutting and drawing the pattern and pinning it to make it fit my body, and then I spent all Friday sewing it all together. I even had to sew a zipper in the back so I could wear it.  It's quite an amazing feat, because the last time I sewed a dress, it was a complete disaster and a mess of thread on the inside lol.  I also made my own necklace and a bracelet out of clay, but I threw it away at the end of the night. I tied leftover leopard print fabric to a headband so I could match the model, put on my favorite black Forever 21 belt, and my new nude Payless sandals, and TA DA! cave girl :)

FOTN:
Foundation: Sephora Mattifying Compact Foundation in D25
Contour: Contouring Palette from Coastal Scents
Blush: Elf Contour & Blush
Eyes: Urban Decay Naked Palette Smog, Sin, Darkhorse and Mac Ricepaper
Eyeliner: Loreal Linear Intense for upper lid and Almay eyeliner on waterline
Mascara: Covergirl Lashblast
Lashes: Model 21
Lips: NYC Sheer Red

My first time wearing red lipstick in public!!  I own three or four red lipsticks and no one has ever seen me in them lol. This NYC one was really nice, it's a very wearable shade! However, I noticed that my lips dried out a lot by the end of the night.  When I looked in the mirror before washing everything off, my lips looked kinda cracked, but I don't think it's anything a bit of chapstick can't help. It was still red though, through several drinks and half a hamburger lol  I think the red lipstick made my skin look really really white.

I'll leave you off with this last picture, you can see my homemade necklace and bracelet :)
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Cal vs. UCLA

Hello!! It's been a while!  I've been a bit busy with school and pharmacy school apps.  I'm still not done with my apps yet, and I honestly don't feel too ready for it yet. But we'll see how it goes!! As for school, I'm taking two online courses in psychology and microeconomics.  I was really frustrated by how unorganized these classes were, but it's going well now.  I've been spending most of my day working on either apps or studying for my classes with one or two days off to hang out with friends. Overall, nothing too exciting...

...except for yesterday! I went to the Cal vs. UCLA homecoming game!! :)

yay!! I miss football games, but I sat in young alumni section, which is quite different from student section.  Watching the student section cheer made me realllly miss college though! It's cool, we still got to do a few "go bears" and the alligator song chomp. I don't actually know what that alligator song is called, or what it's for.. lol forgive me, I don't know much about football LOL

Before the game, I went to Sproul Plaza to check out the homecoming festivities.  In the past years, I used to help sell banh mi for VSA at the homecoming festival.  The first one I went to was really fun.  There were club booths selling food up and down Sproul, athough we got stuck with the worst booth location, all the way past Sather Gate.  There was also a little kid's area where they could play games get face painted and sticker and stuff like that.  I think that homecoming was successful because the game started around 5.  The following year, the game started at 11, so we all had to set up and sell at 8.  And to make matters worse, it was a rainy morning!!  No one wants to buy banh mi 8 am in the morning at homecoming!! People didn't even want to buy Vietnamese coffee!! People already made their accommodations elsewhere before coming to the homecoming festival.

Well this  year, I was excited to go, because it's my first time as an alumni.  But surprisingly, I only saw like 3 booths this year!! WHAA?? urgh, budget cuts!! :P  I did get to see Cal Band play though! I love Cal Band!

The game started at 12. We missed the kick-off, but eh.. we didn't miss anything too exciting lol.  I saw Oski Bear when I got in, and so of course I had to take a picture with him!  I remember at one point during the game, I saw these little kids punching his nose!! poor Oski!! Oh and at one point, his neck was sticking out of his shirt, lol and we kept trying to tell him to fix it. Oh Oski!

I sat pretty close to the field.  We were in the 7th row by the end field. They were pretty nice seats! and I got to see one of the players, Shane Vereen perhaps? i dunnoo lol, jump over some UCLA players during two different plays.  Pretty awesome!!

Testing out the zoom capabilities on my camera.  Look how sweaty they are!!
UCLA's band played first, and then Cal Band.  They played the same songs they did at Sproul earlier in the day, a medly of Latin American songs like Livin a Vida Loca and The Macerena hmm.. a Gloria Estefan song and  J Lo song.

Final Score, woot woot!! I knew we would win :)

Chicken Basil Pizza from Zachary's
After the game, we walked to Zachery's from the stadium.  Yes, we walked the entire 2 miles!! Luckily, we didn't have to walk back, although I think I would've really liked to!  So this was my first time eating Zachery's.  Yes, I went through all 4 years of college and never tried Zachery's!!  Well.. I DIDN'T LIKE IT!!! lol  I guess deep dish pizza just simply isn't my thing!! The pizza was just too tomato-y, and it was sour.  And I was stuffed after eating two slices.  I had a slice of chicken garlic, and it was good but if I had to pick a pizza to eat, I wouldn't eat this.  Next I had a slice of sausage pizza, and it definitely was not as good or flavorful as the Chicken Basil.  We also ordered a thin crust pizza, which I was only able to eat half off.  Although I prefer the thin crust, their thin crust pizza just had too much cheese on it!  It was like eating globs and globs of cheese X_X  After eating here, I was completely stuffed, and I felt bloated well on through the night.  And it's left me with no appetite to eat, even til today!! Now I'm craving for some good pizza.  Lol, I even prefer Dominos and Round Table and even Costco to Zachary's!!! Bleh..

Oh I forgot to mention, I sunburned my nose and a part of my shoulder and neck :(  Poo, I put on a lot of sunscreen on my nose too!! I used my Neutrogena SPF 70 sunblock on my nose, and then put Aveeno SPF30 tinted moisturizer on top of that! I thought it would be enough sun protection, but I guess not enough.. So now, my nose is significantly darker than the rest of my face, but hopefully it'll fade away quickly! :(

"They say true friends can go long periods of time without speaking and never question their friendship. These friends pick up like they just spoke yesterday regardless of how long it has been or how far away they live and don’t hold grudges. They understand that life is busy, but that you will always love them."

This year, I learned how true this quote is :) .

Ghirardelli Square Chocolate Festival

I swear, I think all I've been doing lately is EATING!!! lol! I can't help it, I need to indulge myself in someway! With no job and no flow of money, I have to seriously cut back on my shopping habits.  It pains me to restrict myself so from buying new clothes or makeup to play with.  Actually, I honestly don't need anymore clothes or makeup.  Well, maybe more clothes still.. and shoes!! I can never have enough :D

But i like treating myself out to a yummy treat.  I try to keep it to just once a week.  A girl's got to eat, right?? lol  So I don't stop myself from spending on food.  Good food for a good soul!! :)

First off, stupid me, I did not take traffic into consideration.  Wanting to sleep in, I decided to leave San Jose around 12.  Well of course there's lots of lagging, so we didn't leave until 1:30.  We arrived in SF around 2:30, BUT there was so much traffic, and parking was a b**** to find.  We ended up parking at the Ghirardelli parking lot.  It's soo friggen small! It's built so that everything is one-laned, you drive down and around one side all the way to the bottom floor, and then you drive back up and around the other side.  They kind of like put parking lots on every half floor?  I dunno, it's really wierd, and the turns are reallly reallly narrow.  Luckily we found parking at the first floor going back up after hitting bottom.  I'll tell you about my adventure leaving this parking lot later X_X. So anyway, it was about 3 by the time we actually got to the festival.

So, boyfriend and I went to turn in our Living Social coupons.  So normally, it costs $20 to buy a ticket that you can redeem for 15 samples.  The other week, Living Social had a deal where you can two tickets for $10!  Sounded like a great deal and a great date adventure, right?

Well first thing we noticed was ALL THE PEOPLE. The lines for everything were SOOO LONG!!
It's kind of hard to tell how long the lines were in this picture, because I was in line while taking it! lol.  Also, at this point, a few of the booths were closed.  For some reason, I was totally not expecting the long lines, I don't know why.  And for some reason, I thought we would get some baller samples, like I thought I would get like a whole chocolate cupcake or something.  Because I mean, if people were paying $20 for this, it had to be worth it right???  As you will soon see, I was sooooo soooooo wrong :(

Homemade Rocky Road Candy from Project Open Hand
1. This was the first booth I went to, because it had NO LINE!!! But look what one sample was!!  It was pretty small and dinky, and it did not taste like anything extraordinarily special.  It was just chocolate with marshmallows and nuts, hence "rocky road".  I could totally make this on my own -__-

Chocolate Stuffed Marshmallow from GudFud
2.  My second sample from GudFud (pronounced like good food), another short line lol.  It's a better sample size, but I still wasn't blown away or anything.  I was curious because I saw several people carrying boxes of this stuff.  Um.. it's just marshmallow with some chocolate in the center!! I think I've had something like this in the asian supermarkets.  They do have a fruit filled one, but no samples of that!!  But I must admit, it's packaging looks pretty cute! I was drawn in!!

Freeze Dried Fruit from Funky Monkey
3.  This was right next to the GudFud line, and it was pretty short too!  This wasn't too bad, they gave us two bags as 1 sample :)  It's basically freeze dried fruit, there's this Vietnamese snack that's exactly like this, but with more variety and I think some of their fruits are just baked.  Well overall, I liked the banana one a lot.  I'm not a big fan of freeze dried pineapple, it's just too hard and gets stuck to your teeth when you try to eat it.  OH! But I was definately able to taste the extra guava flavoring they put in there!

Petite Brownies from Sugar Bowl Bakery
My boyfriend marked these off his card.  He got three brownies for two marks :)  They had madelines earlier in the day, but I'm fine with brownies :)

Sea Salt Fudge Brownies from Delise Dessert Cafe
4,5,6,7.  I wish I got into this line a lot sooner!!  This was the longest line I saw upon entering the festival.  I should've stood in line right then, but I wanted to browse around :P  I saw that they were giving out little mini cupcakes!!!! So I stood in line, the lady behind told us that it was her second time and the brownies were to die for.  She also told us to get some chocolate vodka, but they ran out by the time Richard got there :(  Anyway, they ran out of cupcakes when I finally got to the front of the line :(  So I settled for 4 pieces of brownie.  At that point, it was already 4 and the festival closes at 5, and we wanted to use up our cards!! lol
The lady was right, these brownies were realllly good.  Really moist and chewy, more like fudge than brownies, and you can also taste the salt, very slightly though!!  I just wish the pieces were bigger!!!

Chocolate Martinis from Leonidas Fresh Belgian Chocolate
8. I met up with my good friend Ali and her boyfriend right after the brownies.  They were in line for the chocolate martinis.  Sounds cool right?  Well they gave us each a plastic martini cup, and they filled it up just so it's barely past the fluted part.  I forgot to take an actual picture of the drink, but here it is cropped out of our picture lol.  anyway... THIS DRINK WAS NASTY!!!!!!! OMG, it just taste like medicine, the bitter kind!!!! I think all the chocolate sweetness was caught in that fluted part of the cup, and we just got a big dose of vodka X_X

Oh, there were giving out pieces of bagels right next to the martinis, and the guy didn't mark our cards! Awesome! free sample!! They were chocolate cranberry bagels, and there were realllly good, but it might've been because they were toasted and buttery and warm :)

9, 10. I picked up two pieces of biscotti for me and the bf from somewhere, iunno it was just in front of us. Forgot to take a pic, but it was nothing special.  It was small, and melted, and lumpy lol.

Traditional Toffee & Sweet and Salty Toffee from Goodytwos Toffee Company
11, 12, 13, 14.  Trying to use up my card, I got myself some toffee.  Yes, each cup holds two samples of toffee X_X  and.. they taste the same to me!! lol.  I'm fine by that though, I love toffee!! I remember eating a tin of See's toffeettes when I was little.. and then getting in trouble for eating the whole thing and not sharing with anyone LOL!!

Pistachio Caramel Corn & Spiced Almond Caramel Corn from CCMade
While I was in line for toffee, bf was in line for popcorn.  They were pretty yummy! Better than your average caramel popcorn! But I couldn't tell the different between the two!!  They were both caramelly with  a spicy after taste.

Chocolate Covered Oreos from Plumeria Flours
15.  Our last sample of the day!!  We got into this line, because it was next to the popcorn line, LOL.  And after we stood in line, one of the workers from the booth came up to us and told us not to let anyone else stand in line behind us because they're going to close and not give anyone else samples.  So, I thought SCORE! Last sample!! But it was ehh.... Getting people to not get in line behind us was HARD, I would tell them, and then they would say that they'll just try.  The lady came back to tell people twice, and twice people were angry and then they walked away.  The third time a security guard looking fellow stood behind us, but he wouldn't really tell everyone that the line was closed.  He'd would tell the group directly behind us that it's closed, and then they walk away and the line moves up, but he doesn't update them.  This one woman was so mad because she stood there for like 5 minutes before he even said anything!!! In the end, they couldn't stop the people from coming.  I dunno why, they still had plenty of samples left!! And speaking of the samples....

OMG, look got DINKY that is.  They basically took a cookie and cut it to like 16 pieces, we were getting CRUMBS!! X_X  Costco gives better samples than this!!! And it wasn't that great either :P

Oh! I forgot about parking.  First off, I paid $15.75 to park X_X craziness.  It's because it costs $2.25 per 20 mins.  It's actually not too bad, considering that other garages charge $3 something elsewhere, and the Fairmont's garages charges $5 per 20 minutes.  Crazy!!! And if finding parking was a b****, getting out of the parking lot was b****er!! X_X So I told you were were on the second to bottom floor right?  Well we had to go all the way back up, since the normal exit exited to where the festival was taking place.  So we had to go all the way back up.  But remember how I told you the entire parking garage was one laned?  So when we got up two floors, the parking attendants stopped us.  The parking traffic was clearly backed up.  But they held us for like 20 minutes, and the entire time we were trying to figure out why! Well it turns out that they were letting cars come in to park!!! Ugh.. So, I left the festival around 5:45, and I didn't get home until almost 8 X_X  *sigh* what a CRAZY day!!!

Well, the day wasn't a complete lost!!  The weather was surprisingly absolutely beautiful in SF!! I got to spend a lovely day with the boyfriend and double date with my good friend :)

Oakland Eat Real Festival

Last Saturday, boyfriend and I drove to Oakland to go to the Eat Real Festival.  First off, it was pretty crowded.  You know where food was good by how long their lines were!! Fortunately, the lines moved pretty quickly.  Each vendor sold only 2 or 3 items from their full menu.  Each item was around $3-$5, but it seriously adds up when you're buying an item or three off each truck X_X What else was  bad about it was that some vendors pre-made their food, so it wasn't as good as if it were fresh off the grill.  Luckily, I made it to all the vendors I wanted to visit :)

Kung Fu Taco

Nun Chuck Chicken Taco
This taco was by far my favorite from the entire day! I like it much better than mogos! The chicken and the sauce was sweet and tender, and the carrot sauce gave it a nice tarty punch :)  And after I bought and ate this, a guy gave me a ticket to get another FREE TACO :) SCORE!!! :D

Gobba Gobba Hey
Matcha Green Tea w/ Lemongrass Frosting
Orange Cardamom Ginger w/ Saffron Frosting
I bought two, matcha w/ lemongrass frosting and orange cardamon w/ saffron frosting, and I put it in my bag to eat later. I didn't get to eat it until I came home, but silly me, I completely forgot to take a picture of them!! X_X

Matcha was REALLLY GOOD. It was like eating a cupcake :)Nice and light tasting, and the frosting tasted like cream cheese frosting actually. The cardamon one just tasted to "spice-y". The spices were a  too overwhelming :P

Chairman Bao
$3.50 each?? X_X
their full menu.  those $3.50 baos normally only cost $2.98 :P
3 pork belly baos, 1 crispy garlic tofu bao, 1 red sesame chicken bao (shared between 4 of us)
These were interesting to try, but not worth  $3.50 for each of them :P The tofu bao was not that great. Despite its "crispiness", it's interior in just tooo soft and doesn't go well with banh bao buns. The chicken was OKAY but really messy to eat. I only took a small bite, because it looked spicy. The pork belly was the best out of all three!  It simply had enough meatiness and sweetness to compliment the baos.  The daikons were sour, but it complemented the pork fat well.

Senor Sisig

1 Pork Sisig Taco and 1 Beef Sisig Taco
While the boyfriend and I were waiting for our baos, my friend and her bf waited in line for this.  I thought it was adobe tacos, but they were sisig? I'm guessing its another type of filipino meat dish.  This was alright... like Mogo's it just tastes like a normal taco!! Nothing special....

Seoul on Wheels

Bulgolgi Taco
I actually wasn't going to buy anything from this truck, because I was tired of eating tacos.  But after seeing that they had bulgolgi tacos, I just absolutely had to try them!!  MmMM bulgolgi!! Definitely better than Mogo's korean tacos.  Unfortunately, I didn't get to try these tacos at their best, because they gave me a pre-made taco, that was COLD!!! >\

The Creme Brulee Cart
Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee
MmMMm, I was waiting all day to try this!!! I would've tried it first, but everyone else wanted to eat meatier foods before desserts lol.  My friend went to the festival on Friday and told me that they had more creme brulee flavors, but it's okay Vanilla is a classic and probably the best!!  What I liked best about The Creme Brulee Cart was that they torched the creme brulees just before they give it to you, awesome!! I absolutely enjoyed eating this, and all its custardiness and its sugary crunchy top, yum!!!

Fat Face

LOOK  AT ALL THE FLAVORS!!!!

Thai Tea & Sweet Potato
Honey Dew & Wasabi

Watermelon & Pineapple
My friend really wanted to get this after seeing someone eat a thai tea flavored popsicle.  We were quite intrigued by all the different flavors we could try.  Boyfriend really wanted to try cucumber mint pineapple, but the lady in line before us got the honeydew wasabi and said it was really good and recommended it and thus convinced us to try the honeydew wasabi too.  At first, it was pretty good, all you could taste was the honeydew, and if you let the popsicle sit in your mouth, you could taste a wasabi aftertaste.  But as you get closer and closer to the core of the popsicle, it was all wasabi, well more like a fruity wasabi because of the honey dew X_X But as you get to the end, the wasabi taste waned away lol.  My friend's thai tea pop just tasted like thai tea, quite tasty! And my other friend was much less adventurous, his watermelon & pinapple popsicle tasted just the way it sounds lol.

Oakland Cupcake Company

Red Velvet Strawberry Shortcake
On my quest to find a cupcake to end my day with, I found this stand!  The Oakland Cupcake Company is actually not opening until another month or so, so it was nice to support a brand new upcoming bakery!! They were also selling these pie lollipops for $2 each, but I wanted my money's worth and to satisfy my cupcake craving, so I went with red velvet for $6.  But I didnt realize that it was actually a red velvet strawberry shortcake.  Basically, it was a strawberry shortcake with strawberries and whipped cream and red velvet cake instead of shortcake.  This was suprisingly REALLY GOOD!!! I'm quite happy I bought this :)

51st State
Cactus Fries
We were all pretty much done eating, but my boyfriend was intrigued by the sight that said "cactus fries". So i figured, why not? When are we ever going to be able to try cactus fries ever again??  Well... these cactus fries sounded exotic, but didn't taste like anything spectacular.  Honestly, it tastes like any deep fried vegetable, or more like deep fried asparagus or something like that.  It was $2 for this small basket of fries, not worth the fries, but I wouldn't mind giving up $2 to try something new!

That was pretty much everything I bought and ate.  Overall, I spent about $40 on food between me and the boyfriend.  Pretty expensive day, but I think it was worth the experience.  Because when I think about it, I would've spend all these foods anyhow at some point of my life, but I just happened to spend it all in one day because all these food trucks congregated in one day, lol.  And I saved my myself time and gas :)  lol!  Good rationale, yes?? lol.  Well here are some pictures of the other vendors there that I didn't eat at.

I kept seeing people holding and eating this everywhere.  I'm not a big fan of corn, so I didn't try this, but my friend bought one.

Spencer on the Go! I didn't know until after the fest that they were in the Food Network's Great Food Truck Race.  Pretty cool!  I wanted to but decided against trying their food, just because there were other foods I really wanted to try first.

I thought this was where my friend bought me the tacos, but I dont think they had tacos here, lol.

Cookie Monster
Oh!  One of my good friends went up to Davis that same day to clean up her apt and stopped by Let Them Eat Cake for me, since it wasn't open the last time I went up to visit.  :)  This cupcake was pretty interesting, It had cookie dough in the middle!!  It was quite tasty but a bit sweet since it was a cookie flavored cupcake! lol  I traded with my friend a Pretty in Pink strawberry cupcake from Love at First Bite in Berkeley :)  After trying all these cupcakes from everywhere, it's still my favorite bakery!  I picked that cupcake especially for her since she loves pink lol :)

At the end of the day, boyfriend and I quickly visited UC Berkeley campus to visit this wall, which we are a part of LOL Luckily, we're on the side that no one really looks at lol But it's still pretty cool, *sigh* I miss Berkeley!!
